Grant grew up in Byron, Minnesota and attended undergrad at Gustavus Adolphus College where he graduated in 2014 with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Neuroscience. He then worked for a year as a medical scribe, before joining a post-baccalaureate program in 2015 at Mayo Graduate School in Rochester, MN. Grant joined the Neuroscience PhD program at the University of Iowa in the fall of 2016 and joined the Usachev lab in the spring of 2017. He is interested in the role of mitochondria in regulating intracellular calcium and how disrupting this regulation may alter neuronal activity and promote survival in disease states. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, exercising, and playing with his dog.
